US Futures Market Review: Q3-2019
US market volatility in the third quarter pushed US futures and options on futures volumes higher compared to the second quarter. Also, the industry is now on track for a record volume year in 2019, revised from a slight down tick as of the end of the second quarter. Globally, volumes are dominated by equity index and equity futures volumes with this single part of the futures markets on track to trading almost 6 billion contracts in 2019. Finally, the FCM space benefitted from increased use of futures and options on futures, with assets under management reaching a record $176 billion to end the third quarter.
