Executive Summary
A bout of volatility in August pushed average daily industry volume over 20 million contracts for the first time since May. Strength continued into September resulting in the first back to back months with average daily volume over the 20 million contract threshold for the first time since 2018. Despite higher volatility, market quality remained positive in the quarter with narrow spreads and no depletion in bid – ask size.
