Executive Summary

Much has happened in the US Fixed Income ETF (FI ETF) market since we last reported in mid-June. Even mid-summer months were an active time in this market. To wit, between mid-June and late August, the US assets under management (AUM) in FI ETFs grew almost 11%. The average daily trading volume in dollars ($ ADV) across all the 393 FI ETFs was over $30,000,000, and the total $ ADV for this segment was just under $12 billion, or roughly $1.9 trillion YTD. FI ETFS took in almost twice as much money in the second quarter as equity ETFs. The average YTD return for all 393 FI ETFs was 6.24%, compared to about 23% return for the top ten performers and -34% for the bottom ten. This TABB Group Market Note delves into all of these developments and more, bringing you up to speed on the fast-changing market for fixed income ETFs.
