Executive Summary
US Futures and options-on-futures volumes finished 2017 at record levels. Futures were up 2% and options grew 10% and are poised to set new records in 2018. The number of FCMs ended the year at 63 due to consolidation and not contraction. A more favorable interest rate environment coupled with global expansion may lead to more FCMs in 2018.
