Executive Summary

Many financial firms have implemented big data solutions but some are questioning their return on investment. We have gone from having not enough data to too much, and there is a growing realization that simply having all the data is not helpful if the insight gained comes too late to be useful to the business. The age of segregating streaming and static data analytics or utilizing batch-led approaches to big data analytics is over. We have entered an age of true real time big data analytics, and the supporting technology is already in place in some capital markets firms.

Where once sub-second “real time” analysis was only a requirement in the front office, our research found the need for real-time insight, based on a combination of data types and sources, is spreading throughout the organization, especially as use cases for machine learning (ML) and other forms of artificial intelligence (AI) grow. Our latest research looks at which types of firms are early adopters, describes the technology and architecture supporting this approach, examines business use cases, reviews solutions in the marketplace and discusses market potential.
